Palace in Mała Wieś
The Neoclassical palace in Mała Wieś was designed by Hilary Szpilowski – an architect to whom Warsaw owes, among other things, the astronomical observatory in Ujazdów, and Mazovia the palaces in Walewice and Słubice. From the beginning, the residence was conceived as part of a larger complex: the palace, park, and gardens were to form a single composition, with a French garden laid out on the palace's axis.
Years later, when the palace returned to private hands, the heirs of the former owners resold it to the Barański family. The new owners undertook the recreation of the entire complex in the Neoclassical spirit. The work continues to this day, and Chronos was invited to cooperate at an early stage of this reconstruction.
The concept of the first of the newly established gardens – the rose garden – grew out of Chronos' exhibition garden. From there came its formal axis and two classic vases placed as its finials. Then, on the terrace by the restaurant pavilion, Ujazdów Vases were placed at the ends of the columns, and by the pavilion itself – a hedge of Bona planters.
Weddings in Mała Wieś
The next stage was the garden with the Gloriette, surrounded by sculptures of the Greek Muses, which came here from the Royal Castle (you can read about this history here LINK). This part of the park was planned as a wedding venue – and it still serves that purpose today. Its intimate character, neoclassical setting, and green surroundings create a uniquely ceremonial ambiance.
Garden of Five Fountains
The largest project was the Fountain Garden: 3,200 m² of parkland separated by a tall hornbeam hedge, designed by Chronos from the first sketch. It features a French layout with a pavilion and pergolas, four side fountains, and a central fountain made entirely of solid sandstone. For this garden, we also made faithful copies of the wooden Versailles planters.
Mała Wieś is a special project for us, not because it was a single effort. It's a project spanning years, garden by garden, at a pace set by the palace itself.
