Fountain Vase

The neck of this vase is exceptionally wide and flat—almost plate-like. It is this feature that gives the whole form its character: the serene upper part contrasting with the movement of the curls on the convex body. Such a proportional arrangement was not accidental in classical gardens—the bowl was meant to be visible from a distance, discernible on the axis, present in the landscape. The slender shaft and square plinth emphasize this display.
