Agricola Vase

The Agricola vase contrasts with the classical canon while referencing the simpler, utilitarian forms of ancient garden vessels. Their decoration was an integral part of the stone, not an element applied to its surface. The shallow plant motif was treated as a subtle modelling of the material, only discernible in side light. The expanding bowl, set on a compact, massive foot, creates a calm and stable silhouette. This is a form that best reveals its qualities in direct perception, in the intimate parts of the garden.
