Royal Castle
The original design of the Lower Gardens of the Royal Castle included spaces intended for stonework objects and small architectural details — garden rooms in the side avenues, a niche in the labyrinth, and points along the main axis of the avenues. After the garden's layout was recreated, these spaces remained empty for years.
On the fiftieth anniversary of the start of the Castle's reconstruction, the Royal Flower Exhibition "Museum in harmony with nature" was organized in the Gardens. The culmination of the celebration was the unveiling of the pink-porcelain rose "Queen of Warsaw" — a variety cultivated for ten years by the Polish Rose Society. It was on this occasion that Chronos was invited to develop the space of the Lower Gardens.
In over twenty rooms, we placed specially prepared sculptures of the Nine Olympian Muses and Lech Vases, made of reconstructed sandstone. In the labyrinth, personifications of the Four Seasons were placed, along with a sundial individually designed for this project—in our workshop, it was known as the "older brother" of the later "Silver Shadow" model, which eventually became a permanent part of our collection.
Vase of the Queen of Warsaw
For Róża herself, the Queen of Warsaw Vase was created – a planter with a character that deviates from our classic collection: floristic, impressionistic, with a form subordinate to the flower.
The first unveiling took place at the Kubicki Arcades, where some of the sculptures and vases were incorporated into the floral set design of the exhibition. After its conclusion, the objects were moved to their permanent locations in the Lower Gardens. After the jubilee year, the Muses became part of our project in Mała Wieś, where they remain to this day.
The Royal Castle was an unusual project for us: it was not so much about inserting new elements into a finished space, but rather about complementing the original design in points that had been planned for this site decades ago.
